PS3 making very loud fan noises?

Starting just yesterday, my PS3 has been making very loud fan noises. The fan noise comes from the back and just occurs randomly. When I put my hand where the fan noise is coming from, hot air is blowing out. So far Ive just been dealing with this problem by turning my PS3 off and then back on, waiting until it happens again just to do the same thing. Also, my PS3 is about 3 to 3 and a half years old if that means anything. Additionally, it has been pretty hot weather where I live recently. Ive done a little bit of research about this problem and I found one person who said the higher the temperature, the harder the fans of the PS3 will work to keep the system cool. The noise is really loud though and it kind of worries me whenever it happens, so I just wanna be safe. Does anyone know what this problem is about and any solutions? Thanks.
